WEST END CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- What was once one of the centers of Black social life in the City of Charlotte could soon be found again. The Excelsior Club closed nearly a decade ago, but a new developer says he’s ready to bring it back to life.

Shawn Kennedy is one of the masterminds behind the latest plan to fix up the once-thriving Excelsior Club.

“This will be my legacy project,” Kennedy said during Tuesday’s meeting of the Jobs and Economic Development Council Committee.

“There’s two days in a man’s life that are the most important – the day you’re born and the day you learn what you’re born for, and I believe this is one of the projects I was born for,” Kennedy said.
