Through the first eight months of 2025, Baltimore City has seen historic reductions in violent crime, with the city reporting its lowest number of homicides in decades.
As of Sept. 1, Baltimore has recorded 91 homicides and 218 nonfatal shootings in 2025. Towards the end of August in 2024, there were 129 reported homicides and 266 nonfatal shootings.

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates released a statement Tuesday regarding the reduction of homicides in the city. While he was proud of the success, he said “no number of homicides is ever acceptable.”
