He shot both a man and a police dog — but it’s Bingo that most of us mourn.

The two-year-old German Shepherd was the first canine member of the Toronto Police Service to be killed in the line of duty. Sophonias Haile, 24, was an armed, alleged domestic abuser who refused to leave his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

Last week, the father of five pleaded guilty to manslaughter, discharging a firearm to avoid arrest, reckless discharge, unlawful possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm and killing a service animal and on Tuesday, was sentenced to 14 years in prison — including four years for shooting Bingo.
