COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Within two days, a Lexington County rental assistance program closed because of the number of people applying, according to the county.
The Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program, or TBRA, is a federally funded program through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Home Investment Partnerships Program aimed at providing for people who need help paying rent or utilities.
The TBRA program was approved by county council in February of 2024 and began accepting applications in May of that year. The application period was open until July, when it closed due to the number of applications it received. This year, it reopened Feb. 26 before it abruptly closed two days later on Feb. 28, again because the county said there were too many applica
