The man who died after an officer-involved shooting in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle on Aug. 22 as 42-year-old Cole Vannuci, according to a news release from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The Colorado Springs Police Department's Violent Fugitive Offender Task Force and Tactical Enforcement Unit responded to a disturbance involving Vannuci in the area near Powers Boulevard and Galley Road. The Tuesday news release stated Vannuci was in the driver's seat of a vehicle with a firearm when officers located him and he was then blocked in by law enforcement vehicles.

Officers gave repeated commands for Vannuci to exit the vehicle but refused, according to the release. After Vannuci displayed a firearm and pointed it at officers, "at least one CSPD officer fired one round" striki
