Half a century ago, the Pirates trotted out the first all-minority lineup in MLB history. On Tuesday, the team celebrated that history by unveiling a new permanent marker at the location of Three Rivers Stadium on the North Shore.

The marker now sits just outside of Gold Lot 1A on West General Robinson Street near Acrisure Stadium.

“It’s a pleasure for me to be here this afternoon to see this day come,” said Al Oliver, who played first base for the history-making lineup. “I’ve always felt very strongly that this should be a national day, just like Jackie Robinson’s day is national. This is history.

“When you look at each player ... none of us was the same. But we had one of the greatest teams that had ever been assembled.”
