ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Starting on Tuesday, August 2nd, the speed limit is lower on part of Clemens Center Parkway through Elmira. The New York State Department of Transportation announced a permanent speed limit reduction between East Second Street and the South End of the Chemung River Bridge.

That means the current speed limit in that area is now 35 miles per hour after the new signs were installed. The City requested the DOT lower the speed limit after a number of accidents, including some that involved fatalities.
