Legendary former college basketball coach and Nike executive George Raveling has died, his family announced on Tuesday . He was 88 years old.

Raveling died on Monday while surrounded by his family following a battle with cancer.

“There are no words to fully capture what George meant to his family, friends, colleagues, former players, and assistants -- and to the world,” the family said in a statement.

“He will be profoundly missed, yet his aura, energy, divine presence, and timeless wisdom live on in all those he touched and transformed.”

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and College Basketball Hall of Fame member was the head coach at Washington State, Iowa and USC during his coaching career. He also was an assistant on the 1984 USA team that won a gold medal.
