As a child in the predominantly white German town of Braunschweig, Sacramento Kings point guard Dennis Schröder experienced racism from other children who would ask why his skin was “dirty,” he told Marc Spears in August 2024 .
One year later, the veteran point guard, who was named FIBA World Cup MVP in 2023, is fending off a new racist attack.
Schröder was targeted with “monkey noises” from fans on Saturday during halftime of a FIBA EuroBasket game in Tampere, Finland, between Germany and Lithuania.
Schröder, whose father is German and mother hails from Gambia — a small West African country, bounded by Senegal — swiftly condemned the racism.
