PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Northwest Northrup Shelter, located in Portland’s Pearl District, will open its doors Tuesday evening.
The low-barrier overnight homeless shelter will open with 40 beds, but the shelter hopes to increase its capacity to 200 beds in the coming months.

The shelter won’t have any security, according to the Salvation Army, which will be operating the shelter. Rather, staff will be trained to de-escalate conflict and will have to call the police or Portland Street Response if things get out of h
