Benches cleared in the first inning of Tuesday night's Giants-Rockies game after an altercation between Rafael Devers and left-hander Kyle Freeland .
Devers had just hit a 397-foot homer and watched it soar, which upset Freeland. The pitcher had words as Devers reached first base, and the Giants slugger barked back. Umpires got between them and then both benches emptied with a kerfuffle ensuing around the mound.
Devers initially did not finish his trip around the bases, instead getting into the fray. After the dust had settled and Freeland was ejected, along with Willy Adames and Matt Chapman for the Giants, Devers completed his home run trot while the new pitcher was warming up for Colorado.
Devers later took over for Chapman at third base, manning the hot corner for the first time
