A batch of frozen pepperoni pizzas sold at Trader Joe's stores in California were the subject of a recent public health alert.

It might be time to check the freezer, pizza lovers, especially if you've purchased a pie from Trader Joe's in the last couple of months.

A batch of frozen not-ready-to-eat uncured pepperoni pizza product sold at Trader Joe's stores in California was the subject of an Aug. 29 public health alert from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety & Inspection Services.

According to the notice, the product, which was imported from Italy, "did not receive the benefit of import reinspection."

"The problem was discovered when FSIS was notified by Trader Joe's Company that the frozen NRTE uncured pepperoni pizza product was not presented for FSIS import reinspection," USDA's Food Safety & Inspection Services said.

A recall was not requested in connection with the affected product because it is no longer available for purchase, however, the agency is concerned that some product may be in consumers' freezers.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness or adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.

Here's what to know about the affected product, including what to do if you happen to find it in your freezer.
