AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Columbia County commissioners approved more than $6,000 to be donated to the Izzy Scott Foundation’s Safe Splash Summit.

Izzy Scott lived in Grovetown and drowned during a swimming lesson in Burke County. Since then, his family launched the Izzy Scott Foundation, allowing kids the opportunity to receive safe swim lessons, even teaming up with the Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Even though summer is coming to a close, the Kroc Center says swim safety is important year-round.

“We have a beautiful pool,” said Matt Usry, swim instructor, Kroc Center.

The Kroc Center teaches swim lessons all year, with close to 400 people this summer.

Usry says he’s been busy.

“We had more kids come through this summer than we’ve ever had,” he said.
