SANDPOINT, Idaho – A missing boater was found dead in Lake Pend Oreille on Monday, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reported.

The search for 71-year-old Rodrick Crawford began after a severe storm hit the Sandpoint area on August 29. His boat was found near the City Beach boat launch, but Crawford was not on board.

The BCSO Marine Division, Sonar Team, Dive Team and Drone Team, along with the Sandpoint Police Department, conducted an extensive search. Crawford’s body was discovered north of the train bridge in Lake Pend Oreille around 2:13 p.m. on September 1.

The BCSO has labeled the death an accident with no foul play suspected, but the investigation remains ongoing, as a cause of death has yet to be determined by the Bonner County Coroner’s Office.
