The city of Surrey says a tragedy was prevented when an unconscious child was found in a 50-metre pool at the city’s Sport and Leisure Complex and rescued by lifeguards.

Surrey’s parks, recreation, and culture department says the lifeguards performed CPR and successfully revived the child.

The child was later transported to the hospital by arriving paramedics.

“Two ambulances with Primary Care Paramedics and a Paramedic Specialist were dispatched, while onsite staff provided emergency first aid,” said BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) spokesperson Bowen Osoko.
