RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Inside council chambers Tuesday, several councilors demanded answers from the administration after learning of 9 million dollars sitting in a special fund.

“Where was this $9.1M dollars in March, because in March we had many people that were advocating for affordable housing and for the trust fund and literally lined up past the seats,” Representative Sarah Abubaker, representative for the 4th voter district, said.

She, along with the entire council, discussed moving $5.8M from the “Delinquent Tax Sales” fund to pay Marvin Grimm, who is due restitution.

Grimm, who was exonerated in 2024, spent nearly four decades in prison after he was wrongly convicted of killing a three-year-old boy in Richmond.
