LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Dayanna Broome says her family will never be the same after her 12-year-old niece, Jada Smith, was killed, and two other family members were injured in a rollover crash on the Gene Snyder Freeway near New Cut Road.
“Nobody’s taking it well. Nobody,” said Broome. “It hit everyone hard.”
Police say the crash happened early Monday morning when a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Renaldo Gill rammed into a Jeep driven by Jasmine Simpson, causing it to overturn.
According to officers, Simpson and her two children were ejected from the vehicle. Jada Smith died at the scene.
Gill was arrested and charged with murder and DUI. He appeared in court Tuesday.
Broome said the family is focused on healing and honoring Jada’s memory. Broome says Jada was cheerful and a ball of joy.
