The 22-year-old slugger is the second player in team history to hit 40 homers

TAMPA, Fla. – How about 50? That might be asking too much given there are only 24 games remaining. That said, it has been a dream season of sorts for Junior Caminero, so what the heck.

The 22-year-old third baseman led off the Rays’ half of the sixth inning and tore into a 95-mph four-seam fastball delivered by Mariners’ starter Bryan Woo. The ball soared over the wall in right-center for his 40th homer of the season, which tied the game at four. Caminero joined Carlos Pena (46, 2007) as the only players in the Rays’ 28 seasons to reach that plateau.

“A lot of emotions for me right now,” said Caminero following the Rays’ 6-5 win. “I am very happy, very excited.”
