WARREN Opening statements are expected this morning in the trial of a Warren man accused of rape, kidnapping, and felonious assault.

John G. Baker, 64, is charged in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in February of 2025 in Champion Township.

According to a previous police report, Baker is accused of entering a woman’s bedroom and forcing himself on her after she had told him she was going to bed. The report states that Baker allegedly told the woman, "I needed you. I knew I would get to you."

The alleged victim told police she locked herself in a bathroom to call a relative, and Baker allegedly stabbed the bathroom door with a knife. Police said they later found Baker in the room where the incident allegedly took place.

Baker was arrested on a warrant from Canton.
