Florida regulators have fined eight insurance companies more than $2 million for "misconduct" due to their handling of claims related to Hurricanes Ian and Idalia.

Hurricane Ian, the deadliest storm to hit the state since 1935, made landfall in late September 2022. Hurricane Idalia swept across northern Florida in late August 2023.

The violations, revealed by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (FLOIR), include; using adjusters not properly appointed; not acknowledging receipt of claims communications in a timely manner; not including certain disclosure statements when providing estimates on damage claims; failing to provide Homeowners Claims Bill of Rights; and failing to pay interest when owed.
