A retired nurse has tragically died after suffering a severe reaction to bee stings while collecting honey. Kathleen Devine, who was in her seventies, passed away after being stung by bees on Monday evening. ‌

She and her husband Des, both experienced beekeepers, were assisting friends in harvesting honey from their hives near their home in Ballycastle, approximately 25kms north of Ballina. ‌

According to local sources, Mrs Devine was stung by as few as two bees, which caused her to become seriously ill. The Rescue 118 Irish
