All-Stars tribute at Field of Honour

The annual Field of Honour slo-pitch games celebrating and honouring the legacy of the Chatham Coloured All-Stars and Black baseball in Canada will be played Saturday, Sept. 20, at Fergie Jenkins Field at Rotary Park.

The first pitch is slated for 11 a.m. The full schedule hasn’t been released, but three games were played last year.

The games are traditionally played by descendants of the Coloured All-Stars, who became the first Chatham team and first Black team to win an Ontario baseball championship in 1934. The All-Stars have been inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the Ontario Baseball Association Hall of Fame and the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame.

The entry fee is a cash donation. The event is held by the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Soc
