MACON, Ga. — The man accused of killing a woman at an east Macon Family Dollar has died after a shoot out with deputies near downtown Macon Tuesday night, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
They say Cantrell Tywan Ford is suspected of shooting 56-year-old Regina Darlene Smith to death in the parking lot of the convenience store on Jeffersonville Road and leaving a 79-year-old man in critical condition. It happened at around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The two victims were found in a Nissan Rogue near the side of the building, and Smith was pronounced dead in the store's parking lot, the press release said.
The sheriff's office says Ford fled the scene, prompting both Jones and Bibb County deputies to search the area for Ford. Georgia State Patrol also helped in the search.
