STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Today, access to a computer is essential to do just about anything. But technology doesn’t come cheap.
With that in mind, community leaders on Friday unveiled a computer lab and free training programs at the Gerard Carter Community Center in Stapleton.
The community center, named after fallen NYPD officer Gerard Carter, serves as a resource center and recreational facility for residents of the New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) Stapleton Houses.
A ceremony Friday to unveil the lab coincided with a community block party, and the eighth annual Gerard Carter Foundation school supply giveaway.
“This computer lab will be for adults and children ... if you’re looking for a job, if you just want to do school research, whatever it is,” said Jozette Carter-Willi
