Authorities Wednesday were investigating the death of man who was killed after he was run over by a Metro bus at a terminal in Gardena.

The victim was lying unconscious in the turn around area of the Harbor Gateway Transit Center at 731 W 182nd St. around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck, according to Metro.

Passengers on the bus alerted the driver that he had run over the man, Fox 11 reported.

“The Los Angeles Fire Department and the Los Angeles Police Department responded immediately to the scene and confirmed the pedestrian was deceased,” according to a statement from the transit agency. “Metro extends its heartfelt condolences to the pedestrian’s family.”

Metro said it is working closely with the LAPD as they investigate the fatality.
