This school year, UMaine revamped their Black Bear Safe phone app for students.

Jamey Dover of the UMaine Police Department says students can use this app for a number of situations.

There’s a panic button that immediately notifies campus police, a virtual walk home where students can talk to the department while walking alone or at night... And social escape where students can save a specific phone number to call them when they need to get out of a potentially dangerous situation.
