KINGSTON — City council renewed the city’s contract with its integrity commissioner, despite objections from the councillor most familiar with the commissioner’s work in the past year.
Council voted 9-4 to renew the contract with Aird & Berlis LLP for four years.
But Meadowbrook-Strathcona Dist. Coun. Jeff McLaren, who was found to have breeched council’s code of conduct twice in the past 10 months , said the company was not providing proper service.
“It’s no hidden truth that I do not like this company,” said McLaren, adding that the company does not provide impartial rulings and instead works for “the boss,” Mayor Bryan Paterson.
McLaren also said that as council’s closed meeting investigator, the company could be in a conflict of interest.
“We are not doing proper justice to the
