The Chatham-Kent Chamber of Commerce is calling on residents to shop locally, now more than ever, with the cancellation of the de minimis exemption businesses once enjoyed for cross-border shipments to the United States.
The exemption — which enabled Canadian businesses to ship products valued at less than $800 duty-free into the United States — recently was ended by U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. Now, these shipments will require vetting and be subject to tariffs.
