An unusually dry summer has prompted the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority to declare a low-water advisory for the watershed.
Last week, the authority’s low water response team officially declared a low-water level 1 advisory, which is issued when the stream flows are approximately 70 per cent of their normal or the watershed’s monthly precipitation falls below 80 per cent of average.

According to authority officials, the watershed received between 33 and 92 millimetres of rain between July 22 and Aug. 21, with an average of 62 mm, which is roughly 78 per cent of normal. The long-term average for this period – measured at the London International Airport – is 80 mm.
The watershed has experienced an even lower level of rain over the past three months, with the
