UMass Lowell issued alerts Wednesday about an individual who may have a weapon on campus.
Alerts sent to the community referred to a search for a person with a weapon near the Riverview Suites on South Campus. The public was urged to avoid the area as police investigated.

Rep. Lori Trahan shared a statement on social media saying she was monitoring the situation: "I'm actively monitoring the alert of a potentially armed individual near UMass Lowell’s South Campus and in touch with local officials. If you are in Lowell, please follow directions from Lowell Police Department (Official) and UMass Lowell."
NBC10 Boston is reaching out to authorities for more information. It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was hurt.
