A security guard will soon be patrolling the two-block radius surrounding the Living Space shelter on Spruce Street South after a city council decision on Tuesday night.

Amid lingering concerns about safety issues, trespassing, and open drug use, Ward 3 Coun. Bill Gvozdanovic put a resolution on the agenda for a 30-day trial period for security services.

City clerk Steph Palmateer read the resolution aloud, which was drafted on the fly.

“Be it resolved that administration be authorized to hire a security guard for the two-block radius surrounding Living Space to work between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly, for the period of one month.”

The first to open their mic, was Gvozdanovic.

“We can get that started pretty quickly, like within the next 48 hours?” he asked.
