Columbia S.C. (WSPA) -- The South Carolina Election Commission was served a lawsuit and received a restraining order Tuesday night, temporarily preventing it from sharing voter information with the federal government.

Last month, the U.S. Justice Department requested full voter information, including the driver's license numbers of approximately 3.4 million South Carolina voters and the last four digits of their Social Security numbers.

The plaintiff, Dr. Anne Cook, filed an initial complaint on Aug. 28. Cook is represented by the law office of state Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto, an Orangeburg Democratic.
