CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Sept. 6 will mark seven years since three people were killed and two others were hurt when a 29-year-old gunman opened fire inside Fifth Third Bank headquarters on Fountain Square in the heart of downtown Cincinnati.

One of the survivors, Whitney Austin, has been on a mission since the shooting by speaking out against gun violence.

Sept. 6, 2018, started out like a normal day.

It was warm and sunny, but what happened at 9:06 a.m. left Austin on the floor, bleeding and believing she would never see tomorrow.

“Just thought another day at work,” Austin remembers.

The day was far from that for Austin and many others walking into the lobby.

“That’s when the first barrage of bullets came and the force of it all just knocked me to the floor,” Austin explained.
