Released last week, Virginia’s Standards of Learning (SOL) test results from the 2024-2025 school year show steady scores or slight improvement statewide in all subject areas.
Data also shows a statewide improvement in chronic absenteeism, defined by the percentage of students who missed 10% or more of the school year.
Local results were a mixed bag with improvements in most areas and setbacks in a few.
Shenandoah County Public Schools (SCPS) results showed improvement in reading, writing and math pass rates, remained steady in history and dropped slightly in science.
The reading pass rate rose from 69% in the 2023-2024 school year to 71% last year.
The writing pass rate rose from 70% to 71% while the history pass rate remained steady at 66%.
