NEWARK — New Castle County could soon see two new inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, a region where health leaders say a shortage of rehabilitation beds is forcing patients to travel long distances — or delay care entirely.

The Delaware Health Resources Board held a public hearing Wednesday on an application from New Spring Rehabilitation for a proposed 33-bed freestanding rehabilitation hospital near the intersection of I-95 and Route 273 in Newark at 140 Red Mill Road. The facility would feature all private rooms, state-of-the-art therapy equipment, outdoor recreational spaces and family-centered recovery areas.
