ONEIDA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Oneida City School District students are making their way back to the classroom on Thursday, September 4.
For the 2025-2026 school year, sixth through 12th graders will split time at Otto Shortell Middle School, while the High School remains under construction due to flood damage.
When a major storm struck the high school on June 22, the building suffered extensive damage, making it unfit for students to return for the school year. The district, alongside contractors, engineers, electricians and architects, are working to repair the electrical and mechanical damage.
To better adapt to the shared building, high schoolers will take the earlier shift, which will have them in class from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
