JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois tradition that helps usher in the Autumn season is underway.

Mileur Orchards in Murphysboro begins their apple season this week, after a wetter-than-normal spring.

Mileur Orchards is a small family-owned farm on Illinois Route 149, just west of town, that has been serving up apples since 1961.

The orchard even supplies a significant portion of the apples and baked goods for the Murphysboro Apple Festival .

It was a much wetter than normal spring, and with current drought-like conditions across the Heartland, many wonder if the apple crop would be affected.

Lisa Mileur, a co-owner of Mileur’s Orchards, said there is no need to worry.
