Jack Osbourne has opened up about the moment he learned of his father, Ozzy Osbourne's, death. The rock icon passed away in July, just weeks after a significant charity concert in Birmingham, which was close to his heart. Jack, 41, had spent time with his father during the Back to the Beginning show at Villa Park and remained with family for a week following the event. Tragically, this would be the last time he saw his father alive.
In a poignant YouTube video shared six weeks after Ozzy's passing, Jack recounted the devastating moment he received the news at his home in Los Angeles. He had returned to the US on July 13, and on July 22, at approximately 3:45 AM, he was awakened by a knock at his door. Jack described the moment, saying, "Someone who has worked for my family for about 30 years now was knocking on my door, and when I looked through my window and saw it was him, I knew something bad had happened."
With visible emotion, Jack revealed, "I was informed that my father had passed." He reflected on the immediate feelings of sadness and pain that washed over him. "So many thoughts," he continued. "There was a level of like 'okay, he's not struggling. He's not suffering anymore'. And that is something. I wish he was still here, you know? I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go and I think people saw that at the show."
Despite his father's declining health, Jack admitted that Ozzy's death was not something the family had anticipated. He also addressed speculation surrounding the nature of his father's passing, firmly stating that it was not a case of euthanasia. Jack emphasised that his father had been looking forward to the future.
Ozzy's cause of death was later confirmed as a combination of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction. His death certificate listed his occupation as "rock legend, songwriter and performer."
