Newark, N.J. – A group of House Republicans joined Democrats in blocking the censure of Representative LaMonica McIver from New Jersey. McIver is facing multiple felony charges related to an incident at an immigration facility in Newark in May.

Republicans sought to have McIver censured and removed from her position on the Homeland Security Committee. However, Democrats, along with a few Republicans, voted to table the motion. Two additional Republicans opted to vote present.

This decision means that, although McIver still faces charges, she may avoid being censured for now.
