LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The Louisville Historical League is working to stop the Omni Hotel from tearing down the Odd Fellows building.

The Omni has applied for a permit to demolish and replace the historic building on the corner of Muhammad Ali and 2nd Street with a pickleball facility.

The building has been vacant since 2019 and lost its historical accreditation a few years ago.

But the historical league says it is a key part of Louisville's past and should be preserved.

"We proposed several options. One is to leave it as is and repurpose it within their development, or move it to the corner at Second to Muhammad Ali," said Steve Wiser, president of Louisville Historical League.

Wiser is asking the mayor's office and Metro Council to stop the project from moving forward.
