RICHLAND, Wash. – Drivers in Richland may have noticed increased traffic on George Washington Way.

The first phase of a major construction project has begun at one of the Tri-Cities’ busiest intersections. Project Manager Sheldon Williamson explained the improvements, saying, “This project is going to, add an extra, outbound lane, southbound lane going toward the freeways and an extra left turn lane from Columbia, Point Drive on to those, exit lanes to the freeways.”

The construction aims to manage the flow of approximately 40,000 cars that pass through the intersection daily. The improvements also include expanding cement walkways for pedestrians.

Williamson emphasized the goal, stating, “The whole intersection should flow better then. That’s the intent.”
