CENTERVILLE, Ga. — A man is dead in Centerville after an attempted traffic stop early Wednesday morning , according to Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton.

According to Sheriff Matt Moulton, deputies spotted a pickup that had been reported stolen in Warner Robins just after 2 a.m. in Centerville. The truck came to a stop along Kemper Street, where a man and woman jumped out and ran.

Deputies quickly arrested the woman, identified as 34‑year‑old Ashley Kilgore, who was booked into the Houston County Detention Center on obstruction charges. Moulton told 13WMAZ Kilgore may face additional charges.

He says the man was found hiding nearby. When deputies tried to take him into custody, Moulton said the man fired at them.

Moulton said deputies returned fire, hitting him less than 20 yard
