We just went through a season of birthdays at our house. I love to go back through old photos around these milestone days and reminisce on all the little moments that make up our years together. The more that I stew on the tiny feet and messy faces that get further away every year, the more my heart longs for them. The tears come down labeled “Ma-Ma”, “Patty Cake” and “First steps.” I have to check myself so that I don’t get caught up in the grief that waits in those pictures to remind me that I didn’t get to say a proper goodbye to those days before they disappeared.
