FARGO — Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks manager Chris Coste said center fielder Lamar Sparks craved to be involved in the defining moments all summer. Sparks delivered on a cool, fall-feeling Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
Sparks belted an RBI single in the seventh inning to help lift the RedHawks to a 1-0 victory against Kansas City in Game 1 of an American Association baseball West Division series before 1,358 fans.
“Lamar Sparks has been (saying) all year that he wants the big moment," Coste said. "He got it, and he came through.”
The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, which now shifts to Kansas City. The Monarchs host Game 2 at 6:35 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Legends Field. Game 3 would be Saturday at Legends Field if necessary.
