WHITE SETTLEMENT, Texas — Browser, the beloved gray-striped library cat who captured hearts in White Settlement and beyond, has died.
The White Settlement Public Library announced his passing on Wednesday, saying the 15-year-old cat died peacefully of natural causes, just shy of his 16th birthday.
Browser first joined the library in 2010 after staff, inspired by the famous “Dewey Readmore Books” story, adopted him from a shelter. He quickly became part of the library’s daily rhythm, greeting patrons, riding the book return cart, stealing the Library Manager’s chair, and even sitting in on so many GED classes that teachers awarded him an honorary diploma.
