TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A Tucson-area nonprofit is continuing its work to help communities throughout southern Arizona and around the world.

Southwest Medical Aid, founded in 2004, has handed out millions of pounds worth of medical supplies over the last two decades.

SMA started in a garage and eventually merged with the Portable Practical Educational Preparation’s Microbusiness Housing Development Corporation in 2019 to form PSMA.

Volunteers sort and package all sorts of medical equipment for their more than 100 partner organizations and municipalities, who place orders for clients in need.

“He wants to keep going and be part of it, you know, and keep going so we can keep going with this,” said Martin Montijo, a PPEP volunteer.
