MOUNDSVILLE – Monroe Central’s girls and Caldwell’s boys prevailed Wednesday at the MOVL Golf championships at the sun-soaked Moundsville Country Club. The Seminoles won the 4-team female division, while the Redskins topped the 6-team boys field.

The Seminoles carded a 4-player total of 440 to Shadyside’s 451. River (481) and Bridgeport (551) rounded out the team scoring.

Renee Williams led Monroe Central with a 108, which was one stroke better than Graycee Huntsman. Reese Binegar finished at 11 and Rachael Kroll 112. The fifth member was Kenadie Loch.

“This was a little unexpected,” Monroe Central head coach Stephanie Highman said. “I only have two returning players, so it was a good effort all around today.

“This gives us hopes for a sectional title.”
