After nearly seven weeks and numerous performances, the Charlotte run of “Immediate Family” will come to a close on Sunday.
The two-act play, which centered on a Black family in Chicago and dealt with issues such as sibling rivalry, race and sexuality, was in its third production when it opened in Charlotte on July 29.
The play, written by Paul Stovall and directed by Phylicia Rashad of “The Cosby Show,” was first performed in 2012 at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. Blumenthal Arts produced its Charlotte revival.
With the show’s curtain call nearing, we spoke with Blumenthal CEO Tom Gabbard about the show’s Charlotte run and what comes next. He also talked about working with Rashad, who has won two Tony Awards.
