DOVER – Delaware’s only historically black university is welcoming more than 1,600 new freshmen and transfer students this fall, marking the fourth record-setting new student class in the past five years.
The growth puts Delaware State University on track to surpass last year’s total enrollment of around 6,400 students which, at the time, was a 3.5% increase over the year prior and a 23% increase since 2020.
Leaders say the enrollment increase reflects a deliberate, years-long effort to expand access, strengthen academics and raise the university’s profile as a top regional choice. President Dr. Tony Allen emphasized DSU’s value proposition, calling the institution “the best value in higher education in Delaware.”
