A long-vacant office building in downtown Calgary has been transformed into housing units, as city officials and developers mark the launch of The Loft — a 56-unit rental project on 4 Avenue S.W.

The conversion transformed more than 55,000 square feet of former office space into studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, ranging in size from 376 to more than 850 square feet.

The Loft marks the fourth completed office conversion under the City of Calgary’s Downtown Development Incentive Program , which was introduced in 2021 as a way to bring life back to a downtown core struck with high vacancy and falling property values.
